ART VISTAS: Art
Vistas is an enrichment program staffed by trained Art Vistas docent volunteers. Parents are trained for a specific grade
level and throughout the year use Art Vistas materials to teach the class a specific art concept. No previous art experience
is needed to volunteer for this program. This is a great opportunity to work in the classroom.
BE A BUDDY/CORNERSTONE: The “Be
a Buddy” program is part of the Cornerstone program which focuses on building assets in our community and for our children.
The “Be a Buddy” program is a classroom reading program implemented by parent volunteers. The committee meets
at different times throughout the year to discuss the library of books to be used, schedule reading times and discuss how
the program is being implemented. Volunteers attend meetings and read to students during the school day.
BEAUTIFICATION: Got a Green
Thumb? This committee beautifies and improves the Noddin campus through planting, building, landscaping, clean up and special
projects. Most of this committee’s activities take place on weekend workdays. Fall clean-up, bulb planting, and Earth
Day work parties are some of the planned events. This program is great for volunteering as a family; there is always something
for everyone to do.
BIRTHDAY BOOK PROGRAM: About month
before your child’s birthday, you will receive a flyer offering you the opportunity to donate a book to the school library
in your child’s name. You designate the amount you would like to spend on the book and the category you would like the
book to be in. The librarian and Birthday Book chairperson select a book for your child and a nameplate with your child’s
name on it is placed in the book. Around the time of your child’s birthday, the book is delivered to your child. They
take the book home, read and enjoy it. Once they are done, they return the book to the library.
BOOK FAIRE: A Scholastic
Book Faire is hosted by Noddin in the Fall and the Spring; bringing a variety of books and items for purchase. Scholastic
donates a portion of the sales to Noddin, benefiting amongst other things, the school library. Volunteers help the chairpersons
in coordinating and setting up the faire, volunteering during the faire to sell books, and assist during the family event
nights. Volunteering for the Book Faire is done during the school day and during the weekday evenings.
BOX TOPS/LABELS FOR EDUCATION: These committees collect, sort, trim, bundle,
and ship the Box Tops and Labels for reimbursement. Work can be done at school
during school hours or at home.
CLAY PROGRAM:
The Clay program at Noddin is a special artistic enrichment
opportunity for our students. It is a parent volunteer run program, where working in the classroom, volunteers coordinate
with the teachers the creation of ceramics project which are fired and finished in our on-site kiln. Volunteers are needed
from each classroom to be the representative from each class as the “Clay Parent”.
CLERICAL CLUB/OFFICE ASSISTANCE: Clerical Club and Office Assistance volunteers work in the front office and workroom assisting the school secretary
and staff with clerical tasks including filing, copying, laminating, answering phones, and much more. Volunteering for these
tasks usually take place during the school day, but some projects and certain tasks can be done at home in the evenings.
DAD’S CLUB:
Dad’s Club provides help to committee’s on campus when we need something built, painted, moved, repaired
or BBQed! It’s a fun way to help out at Noddin, either on campus or in your home workshop.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: The Emergency
Preparedness committee inventories and maintains classroom emergency kits. The kits include emergency water and food bars
for all students and staff, first aid supplies, activities for the children, and general emergency items to be used in the
event an emergency requires the students to stay on campus for an extended period of time. Activities for this committee include
inventory of supplies, ordering supplies, and updating kits as needed.
ESCRIP: Register your
grocery store discount card, debit and/or credit cards with the ESCRIP organization and Noddin receives a percentage of your
purchases. For 4th graders, all the credits from their family’s ESCRIP account during their 4th
grade year go toward their 5th grade Science Camp tuition.
GO GREEN/RECYCLING: Go Green is bringing Recycling to Noddin.
This committee helps supervise students as they learn to rethink trash and take care of our planet. Volunteers are needed in four areas.
THURSDAY ENVELOPES: Help reduce the
amount of paper that goes home in the Thursday envelopes.
PAPER RECYCLING: Volunteers supervise
Paper Recycling which happens at the end of the school day at 2:30 (M-T-Th-F) -- oversee the students as they empty the
paper bins and make
sure things go smoothly.
The commitment is one day a week for 10 minutes.
LUNCH RECYCLING: Supervise and guide
students as they learn how to properly separate trash and recycling of their lunch items. The commitment is at lunch
time for about 20 minutes. Choose one day a week that works for you.
GRANT WRITING: This committee
researches and writes up Grant requests that benefit the academic and extracurricular programs sponsored by the Noddin H&SC.
Volunteers for this committee present ideas and proposals to the H&SC at monthly meetings.
The activities for this committee are completed at home.
HOLIDAY FAIRE: The Holiday
Faire is an annual community event where local vendors display and sell their crafts and holiday boutique items. Santa makes
a visit for pictures and there are craft booths, winter holiday activities for the children, prize raffles, and food concession.
Volunteers are needed for planning/coordinating the event, selling raffle tickets, decorating and working shifts at the activity
booths. This event is after school and into the evening, so parents who would like to volunteer after work, this is a great
opportunity.
HOSPITALITY: This committee coordinates food/refreshments and ambiance for a variety of events and meetings on campus. Volunteers
from this committee provide food items, help set up, serve, etc. for events like Back to School Tea, Grandparent’s Day,
Teacher Book Faire Luncheon, Snacks for Staff, and the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon…just to name a few. Volunteers
can drop off contributions, work on campus to setup, and help coordinate volunteers from home either by phone or e-mail. If
you like to cook or bake this is a great way to volunteer…. Get in Touch with your inner Martha Stewart!
ICE CREAM SALES: Ice Cream sales are sponsored by the 4th
Grade class to fundraise for their 5th Grade Promotion activities. Sales are after school and last for approximately
20 minutes. Volunteers are needed to sell during the week.
LIBRARY ASSISTANT: Library Assistant
volunteers work with the school librarian in the Media Center during the school day assisting students, completing administrative
tasks and helping with activities essential to keeping the library up and running for our Roadrunners. Volunteering in the
library is usually done during the school day, but special projects and other tasks can be done after hours at home. A specific need is for volunteers to help reshelf books during recess Monday-Thursday
(10:20-10:40am).
LONG RANGE PLANNING – H&SC : The Long Range Planning committee
meets to brainstorm and discuss direction, new ideas, and programs for the H&SC. They may research or solicit information
about activities, programs, and budget items for the general board, reporting their finding at the H&SC meetings. This
committee’s volunteers meet as needed, communicate via e-mail, telephone, and schedule open meetings for the Noddin
community to participate as appropriate.
MEMBERSHIP:
The H&SC Membership committee coordinates and heads up
our annual Home and School Club membership drive. The membership committee also coordinates the printing of the Noddin directory.
This year, the Membership drive and the Walkathon are the only two school-wide fundraisers for the H&SC.
NOON TIME ACTIVITIES: Noon time activities
are clubs, activities, and sports organized during the lunch period on specific days with parent volunteers. Examples of activities
include, Knitting Club, Running Club, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer or other organized playground games. Volunteers sign
up to come at lunch for the activities.
OLYMPIC DAY: Olympic Day
is held at the end of the school year, with each class participating in Olympian events such as obstacles courses, sporting
activities, and much more. Volunteers are needed to help plan and run this event.
ROADRUNNER VARIETY SHOW: The Roadrunner
Variety Show is a performance showcasing the talents of our Noddin student body. Students perform two shows – one during
school hours and another one in the evening. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the shows, supervise rehearsals and
assist the staff representatives produce the show. Auditions and rehearsals are held after school.
ROOM PARENT:
Room Parents are chosen for each classroom to help coordinate
classroom parties, classroom participation in community events (Walkathon, Spring Faire, etc.), Teacher Appreciation week…and
much more. Room parents assist in other activities and events throughout the school year as requested by their classroom teacher.
RUNNING CLUB: The Running
Club needs volunteers 12:00-1:00pm to help set up cones, punch lap cards and hand out prizes!
Running Club is twice a week, days to be announced. Our Fall program runs
mid October to Thanksgiving and our Spring program runs mid February to Spring Break.
We welcome volunteers to come out once a week or both days.
SCRIP: The Noddin
paper SCRIP program offers many choices of SCRIP for various stores and businesses. SCRIP is gift certificates which Noddin
purchases at a discounted price and sells for the face value. SCRIP is sold at the two SCRIP booths in front of the school
or orders can be placed online. Volunteers are needed to help with sales before and after school.
SPIRIT STORE: The Spirit
Store committee orders and sells Noddin spirit items, including Noddin t-shirts, sweatshirts, wristbands, etc. throughout
the year. Volunteers are needed to assist in ordering, inventorying and selling spirit items after school, via order forms,
and at community events.
SPRING FAIRE:
Spring Faire is the Noddin Annual Community Event with food,
games, and activities for the whole family. Classrooms donate items for themed baskets and they are raffled off to the lucky
winners during the Spring Faire. Volunteers are needed to chair sub committees and volunteer for shifts the night of the event.
TECNOLOGY: The Technology
committee works with administration, teachers, and the district technology contact to develop and implement the technology
plan at Noddin. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks in the classroom and computer lab environment to install, troubleshoot
and maintain software and hardware.
WALKATHON:
The annual Noddin Walkathon is the fun fall Community Event
and Fundraiser. Students collect pledges either per lap or flat donations. A theme for each year is chosen and the décor,
activities and flavor of the event is created around the theme. There are activities for the whole family, food, and lots
of walking. This year, the H&SC Membership drive and the Walkathon will be
our only school wide fundraisers…so show that Roadrunner spirit and join us. Volunteers are needed for all committees;
decorating, setup, food, and manning the track. Volunteering can be done before
the event in the planning stages or the day of Walkathon.
WELCOME WAGON: The Welcome
Wagon committee welcomes new families to the Noddin community through letters, phone calls, and welcome gifts. Volunteers
from this committee send letters, make phone calls, and deliver welcome items to new families.
WORKROOM: The Workroom
committee comes into the school workroom once a week to “tidy up,” organize and generally maintain the workroom
for staff, teachers and volunteers. This committee also checks the front office
for H&SC mail or other correspondence and sorts it into the appropriate H&SC mail slots in the workroom. This job can be done during school hours, right after school, or scheduled before the school day begins.
YEARBOOK: The Yearbook
committee creates the annual Noddin yearbook. Pages for events, activities and classroom happenings document all the wonderful
memories of the school year. Volunteers photograph events, help on picture day, and layout pages for the publication. Volunteering
can be done during school hours, during after school events and in the Spring when it all gets pulled together.
