Art in Action
Art in Action is an art program for Kindergarten through 5th grade that is parent-led and brought to each classroom six times per year. There’s a school-wide art show in the Spring. For more information visit artinaction.org.
Ceramics
The Clay Program allows students an avenue for creativity using clay as a medium. The students are taught everything from basic ceramic skills to forming and glazing the clay. Clay forming has been proven to help improve students' hand-eye coordination.
This is a parent volunteer run program and NHSC provides basic training and all supplies for 2 to 3 projects in the year. Please contact your child’s teacher to volunteer for the Clay Program.
Garden Club & Beautification
A chance for students to dig in the dirt and learn about gardening. Meets one day per week (Tues) at lunch during recess in the Spring and Fall.
This parent-run club is turning our limited soil areas into viable working planting space. Students enjoy watching the plants grow and learn so much in this process. All gardening supplies are provided by the NHSC.
Project Cornerstone
Project Cornerstone is a YMCA community initiative, with the mission to create an environment in school communities for students to feel valued and respected. Their ABC program - Asset Building Champion, focusses on developmental assets like building relationships, skills, experiences and values that help young people thrive.
Once a month, parents come into the program to read stories that focus on one of the developmental assets, helping young people learn more about themselves and their peers.
Walk n’ Roll
Students who walk, bike, or roll to school instead of driving will have the opportunity to win monthly raffle prizes.
How does Walk n’ Roll work?
Students walk, roll or bike to school on Wn’R days
Students receive a raffle ticket & submit with their name
Participating students entered into monthly raffles
Can’t walk all the way to school? Feel free to park a few blocks away and walk the rest of the way!
Running Club
Running Club is a fun and exciting way to motivate the students in grades 1-5 to come out and exercise during their lunch break.
We offer incentives and provide them with a weekly status report of how many miles they have completed. Volunteers help scan student laps and hand out prizes.
